The Four Ball Wear and Extreme Pressure (EP) Tester is a precision-engineered instrument for evaluating the wear preventive and extreme pressure properties of lubricating oils and greases under controlled sliding steel-on-steel conditions.

The Four Ball Wear and EP Tester determines the wear preventive (WP) and extreme pressure (EP) characteristics of lubricating oils and greases using a well-established test configuration — a rotating steel ball pressed against three stationary steel balls coated with the lubricant sample.
This test setup replicates real-world sliding contact conditions to assess anti-wear performance, frictional behavior, and load-carrying capacity.
Test parameters such as rotational speed, applied load, temperature, and duration are precisely controlled through an electronic control system. Frictional torque and normal load are measured via high-sensitivity load cells, with all data continuously recorded and processed using advanced data acquisition and analysis software. The software enables real-time plotting, report generation, and data export for comparative studies.
A high-resolution digital microscope (available as an optional accessory) allows direct, non-contact measurement of wear scar diameters without removing the balls from the pot—ensuring enhanced precision and operator safety.
The microscope, equipped with DinoLite® optics and DinoCapture® software, captures high-definition images, allowing users to record, measure, and archive wear scars with exceptional accuracy.
