The Oil Separation Apparatus is designed to determine the tendency of lubricating greases to separate oil during storage under controlled temperature and air pressure conditions.
Conforming to ASTM D1742 and FTM 791-322, this precision-engineered system provides a constant temperature and regulated air pressure environment for accurate evaluation of oil bleeding characteristics in packaged greases.
It is a standard test instrument used in grease formulation, quality assurance, and storage stability analysis to ensure consistent product performance.
The Oil Separation Apparatus evaluates the oil separation tendency of lubricating greases during storage by simulating static conditions in a 35 lb pail.
In this method, a grease sample is placed on a 200-mesh stainless steel sieve inside a pressure bleeding test cell and subjected to 0.25 psi (1.72 kPa) air pressure at a constant temperature for 24 hours. The oil that bleeds through the grease is collected and weighed to determine the separation percentage.
The complete apparatus includes:
Pressure Bleeding Test Cell:
Type A cell with a cup assembly, funnel, and beaker seat, featuring a bayonet-type closure and O-ring seal for airtight operation. The cup, funnel, and base are made of chrome-plated spun copper, and the sieve assembly consists of a 200-mesh stainless steel screen supported by a brass ring.
Constant Temperature Air Cabinet:
An insulated, stainless-steel, airtight chamber designed to maintain constant temperature (77°F / 25°C) while providing regulated air pressure for up to four test cells simultaneously.
The cabinet includes an electric heater, solid-state temperature controller, cooling coil, and circulation fan for uniform temperature distribution.
The built-in air pressure system features an inlet pressure regulator, manostat, pressure gauges, manifold with control valves, and a gas washing bottle for clean, dry air supply.
A pressure relief valve ensures operational safety against overpressure surges.
This dual-component design delivers precise, reproducible results for assessing the stability and consistency of lubricating greases during long-term storage.
