Biosensing Accessories

Our biosensing accessories line provides everything researchers need for optimal electrode performance and maintenance — including replacement parts, buffer and calibration solutions, liquid ion exchangers, filling solutions, and startup kits.
These products are widely used by life science researchers working in biosensing, free radical detection, and electrochemical signal analysis.

Carbon Fiber Electrodes

WPI’s ultra-sensitive carbon fiber microelectrodes are ideal for the detection of oxidizable compounds and extracellular single-unit recording.
Used in combination with the Micro-C Potentiostat or equivalent instruments, these electrodes provide precise detection of:

• Catecholamines (epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine)

• Indolamines (serotonin, 5-HT, melatonin)

• Ascorbic acid, Fe(II), and other electroactive species

Applications:
Neurochemical studies, pharmacological screening, and real-time electrochemical monitoring of neurotransmitters.

Technical Notes:

• Ultra-low noise design for high signal fidelity

• Suitable for fast-scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV) and amperometry

• Based on classic designs by Gonon et al. (1978), Cahill & Wightman (1995), and Armstrong-James & Millar (1979)

Ion Selective Electrodes (ISEs)

WPI’s ion selective electrodes (ISEs) deliver highly stable and accurate measurement of calcium, potassium, hydrogen, and TPP ion activity.
Each electrode features a 2 mm diameter plastic tube sealed with an ion-sensitive membrane, ensuring robust and consistent performance in experimental environments.

• Modular design — interchangeable tips and holders

• Quick tip replacement (under 1 minute)

• Extended electrode lifespan with proper saline storage

• Compatible with pH meters and microelectrode holders

• Available as individual Kwik-Tip™ electrodes or complete kits

Applications:
Neurophysiology, ion transport studies, and cellular signaling research.

Reference Electrodes

The Dri-Ref™ Reference Electrodes are engineered for minimal electrolyte leakage, chemical stability, and reproducible potential, setting a high standard for reference electrode performance in biosensing systems.

Core Advantages:

• Extremely low fluid leakage — ideal for long-duration recordings

• Stable and reproducible potential with low resistance

• Chemically resistant to strong acids and bases

• Compatible with ion selective electrodes (including K⁺ and Cl⁻)

• Not suitable for use in organic solvents

• FLEXREF™ variant available for flexible positioning in complex setups

When stored in KCl solution, Dri-Ref™ electrodes offer long operational lifespan and consistent output for electrochemical and biosensing research.
