Lubricant oils undergo several chemical changes during operation, including fuel dilution, water contamination, soot formation, oxidation, nitration, sulfation, and additive depletion. eraspec oil uses high-performance FTIR spectroscopy to identify these changes with exceptional precision. It measures contaminants, degradation products, and lubricant health indicators while also calculating important oil parameters such as TAN and TBN.
Its patented triple-cell geometry provides extremely low detection limits for water, additives, soot, oxidation, glycol, fuel dilution, and other contaminants. This makes eraspec oil an ideal solution for predictive maintenance, machine health monitoring, and lubricant performance analysis.
The analyzer supports both Direct Trending and Spectral Subtraction methods. Direct Trending calculates lubricant properties directly from the measured absorbance, while Spectral Subtraction compares used oil against a previously measured fresh oil reference. Spectral Subtraction delivers highly accurate results because it focuses only on the chemical changes that occur during equipment operation. This allows users to track remaining antioxidant levels, oxidation changes, additive depletion, and lubricant degradation more effectively.
eraspec oil is equipped with expandable chemometric libraries for different lubricant product groups. These libraries improve the prediction of complex parameters such as TAN, TBN, oxidation, nitration, and sulfation. Users can also create customized libraries for specialized oils, applications, and equipment, making the analyzer more flexible for advanced oil analysis programs.
The large integrated touchscreen displays trending graphs directly on the instrument, enabling users to monitor lubricant condition over time. Parameters such as oxidation, TAN, TBN, water contamination, and soot levels can be trended alongside equipment operating hours or engine distance. This makes it easier to identify sudden changes in oil condition and take preventive maintenance actions before equipment failure occurs.
The built-in reference cell automates the background measurement process, eliminating the need for manual solvent-based reference measurements. eraspec oil is always ready for the next sample, improving speed, accuracy, and workflow efficiency.
For laboratories with high sample volumes, an optional 10-position autosampler is available, allowing fully automated testing of up to 10 samples in sequence. The analyzer also features a simple 3-step measurement process: enter the sample ID, insert the inlet tube into the sample, and press RUN. Results are displayed within seconds and can be printed, stored, or added to trend libraries.
Thanks to its lightweight and rugged design, eraspec oil can be used directly on-site and even operated using a vehicle battery in remote locations. This eliminates the need to send oil samples to external laboratories and allows maintenance teams to perform immediate oil analysis wherever results are needed.
