The Koehler LKV5000 Series Kinematic Viscosity Bath with optical flow detection system is designed for fully automated viscosity testing of petroleum, petrochemical, lubricant, fuel, and specialty fluid samples. Widely used in quality control laboratories, petrochemical facilities, refineries, research centers, and life science lab instruments applications, the system delivers highly accurate and repeatable viscosity measurements.
The bath supports up to four optical detection assemblies with dedicated communication and power ports for automated testing. Optical sensors and viscometer tubes are available separately, allowing laboratories to customize the system according to testing requirements. The instrument is compatible with multiple glass capillary viscometer types and accommodates four viscometers using standard 2-inch round holders.
Advanced microprocessor PID temperature control ensures precise bath temperature stability and uniformity, with two-decimal calibration offset capability for improved accuracy. Simple push-button controls and dual digital displays make it easy to set, monitor, and maintain the required testing temperature. The clear evacuated Dewar flask and glare-free backlighting provide excellent visibility during testing and improve operator convenience.
Depending on the model, the LKV5000 operates from ambient temperature down to -30 °C or -70 °C, exceeding ASTM temperature control accuracy and uniformity requirements. The system uses air-cooled hermetic compressors with CFC-free refrigerants for efficient, environmentally friendly operation.
The insulated steel cabinet features a durable polyester-epoxy finish, adjustable leveling feet, and a chemical-resistant top surface. The front viewing window ensures clear, distortion-free monitoring of the viscometers during operation.
For enhanced laboratory safety, the system includes over-temperature protection, redundant sensor control, and a low liquid level cut-off system. These safety mechanisms automatically shut down the heaters if abnormal conditions occur and prevent further operation until the issue is resolved.
