The SV3000 and SV4000 Saybolt Viscosity Baths provide precise viscosity measurements of lubricants, insulating oils, fuels, and bitumens using Saybolt viscometer tubes. The system offers microprocessor PID temperature control, accommodates four viscometer tubes, and features an automatic timing option for accurate efflux measurements, fully compliant with ASTM D88, D244, E102 and related standards.
The SV3000 and SV4000 are constant temperature baths designed for Saybolt viscosity testing of petroleum and petrochemical products. They determine the time required for 60 mL of sample to flow through a calibrated orifice under precisely controlled temperature conditions. Saybolt Universal Seconds (SUS) is used for lighter oils, while Saybolt Furol Seconds (SFS) is used for heavier oils and bitumens.
Microprocessor PID control ensures precise temperature stability from ambient to 240°C (464°F). Dual digital displays allow monitoring of both setpoint and actual bath temperatures, with selectable Celsius or Fahrenheit scales. Automatic timing improves testing accuracy by starting the flow, sensing the 60 mL endpoint, and digitally recording efflux times to 0.1-second resolution with ±0.05% accuracy.
The bath accommodates four viscometers and four 60 mL receiving flasks. Sliding draft shields, a chemical-resistant alignment plate, and glare-free fluorescent backlighting make sample handling easy and precise. Optional communication software (RS232, etc.) and advanced features are available.
Constructed from heavy gauge stainless steel, the insulated bath interior includes an overflow pipe and drain valve for easy filling, and a chemical-resistant top plate that is removable for cleaning. A cooling coil allows operation at near-ambient temperatures, while the steel cabinet with leveling feet and a chemical-resistant epoxy finish ensures durability.
